ToonSeum at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, 10 Children’s Way, Pittsburgh, PA 15212

Now at the ToonSeum- Two new exhibitions!

The ToonSeum opens two new exhibitions in January. Half of the ToonSeum gallery space is dedicated to Off the Wall and on the Fridge: The Childhood Drawings of Famed Cartoonists. Showcasing the childhood musings of Charles M. Schulz, Jim Davis, Lynn Johnston, and more, Off the Wall and on the Fridge offers the public a unique look into the history of some of their favorite cartoonists. The other half of the gallery features Animated Icons. The exhibit includes original production cels and sketches of iconic characters throughout the history of animation including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Donald Duck, and Yogi Bear. Both shows run through February 1st.

“We all started out drawing on our bedroom walls, or with drawings at school that ended up on the fridge at home,” said ToonSeum Executive Director Joe Wos in regards to Off the Wall and on the Fridge. “This is a great opportunity for young artists to see how their hero’s drew when they were kids and for families to share memories of their favorite characters.”

The two exhibitions come together as the ToonSeum continues their mission to showcase something for everyone and feature cartoons that span the ages. Animated Icons follows historical animation studios Hanna Barbera, Warner Brothers, and more, offering viewers a great look at the sketches and cels of characters so familiar to children and adults alike. Off the Wall and on the Fridge is reminiscent of Sunday mornings spent reading the Funny Pages with the family. There is a recognizable character for everyone in the ToonSeum.

Off the Wall and on the Fridge: The Childhood Drawings of Famed Cartoonists and Animated icons run through February 1, 2009 at the ToonSeum, located inside the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. Entry to the ToonSeum is free with paid entry to the Children’s Museum: Adults - $10, Children under 18 and Seniors - $8, Children under 2 – Free.
